In 1896 Johann Dietrich Rothfos opened his business “Im Grünen Tal” comprising a café and a shop in the charming village of St. Magnus, close to Bremen, Germany. The shop sold green coffee beans straight out of the sack for customers to roast at home. His son, Bernhard Rothfos, started his internationally renowned trade in raw coffee in 1922, and founded, together with the leading coffee roasters of the time, the company Deutsche Extrakt Kaffee GmbH (DEK) in Hamburg 1955. His son, Jan Beernd Rothfos took over the management of the company in 1956, establishing the holding – which is known as CAFEA GmbH – in 1981 for the purpose of coordinating the production activities.

Since 1983 WERTFORM, a subsidiary of the globally active CAFEA Group, has been working with the latest technologies in cooperation with DEK.

In this time, we has established itself as one of the leading producers of organically certified coffee specialities.
